Giulio Quaglio the Younger, Glory of St. Barbara

First quarter of the 18th century
Fresco
Ceiling above the altar, St. Barbara Chapel
Cathedral of St. Nicholas, Ljubljana, Slovenia

"Glory" ceilings, in which angels lift the saint on clouds toward heaven, were popular in the baroque era. As a martyr, Barbara carries a palm branch and is about to be crowned with laurel by one of the putti. At the very bottom of the fresco is her attribute, a tower with three windows.
